Abstract:
"(...) This text is about food-delivery in a digitalized world of paid work. The majority of meal delivery is carried out offline: the customer calls a particular restaurant, places an order and the Restaurant delivers the meal to the customer. Thus, the online handling of delivery services is an emerging market. Relatively new companies, such as Deliveroo, UberEATS and Foodora, are introducing a new sector of the delivery industry by not only bundling restaurants through their platforms, but also by providing the logistics. These firms started to operate just a few years ago, and since then a knowledge gap has developed due to the lack of formalized study on the industry. We know that this industry is growing and competition is high, we know about labor disputes in different branches and we know about individual accounts of workers1 and union activists of that industry. Labor research has begun to find out about the labor processin the on-demand food delivery sector by applying collaborative research (Waters/Woodcock 2017). (...)"
