Abstract:
"(...) As was the case for my three previous Reports to the International Labour Conference, this year’s Report addresses a theme of key strategic significance to our Organization and the future direction of its work. On this occasion it examines the responsibilities and opportunities of the ILO and its constituents in the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It does this with three specific objectives in mind: to inform constituents about the decent work implications of the 2030 Agenda and the challenges they present; to advocate for the full and committed involvement of constituents in the implementation of the Agenda; and to seek guidance from constituents on what the ILO itself must do in Support of those efforts. The contributions of Government, Employer and Worker representatives will be crucially important in framing the End to Poverty Initiative, which has already been established as the vehicle through which the ILO will take this work forward. So I would, as always, urge all participants to express their views frankly and concretely on an issue which stands so clearly at centre stage in the ILO’s continuing mandate for social justice.
